Food Packet Survival RCAF

A rectangular black-painted metal can containing a Royal Canadian Air Force survival food packet dated 1959. The can is sealed with a fabric pull tab across the top and printed emergency instructions in black ink on both sides. Some of the text is worn or missing due to surface abrasion and adhesive residue. A hand-written price mark “48¢” appears on one side.

These rations were included in R.C.A.F. emergency survival kits for aircrew, providing concentrated food supplies designed to sustain an individual for up to three days in isolated conditions. The can was also intended for use as a cooking utensil, with printed instructions describing how to open and adapt it using supplied wire handles.
