A black wool shoulder title patch with arched top and pointed ends, featuring gold embroidered lettering reading THE ROYAL RIFLES OF CANADA. The patch is made of black felt with raised stitching, typical of Canadian regimental insignia from the mid-20th century.
This insignia represents The Royal Rifles of Canada, a bilingual infantry regiment based in Québec City. The regiment is best known for its service during World War II, particularly its participation in the defence of Hong Kong in 1941. Captured by Japanese forces, many members of the regiment became prisoners of war and endured years of captivity before liberation.
There are five identical patches in the museum collection — one displayed in Cabinet 2 (tree bark exhibit) and four stored in collection storage.
