Two-piece archival document set comprising a typed gray mailing envelope (.1) and an elongated folded paper document (.2). Envelope (.1) is addressed via typewriter to « J. Ballantyne, Esq. / Secretary, / United, Brotherhood Assoctn. / Grindstone, M.I. ». The typed document (.2) serves as the constitution and subscriber petition for the « United, Brotherhood, Association. » of the « MAGDALENE, ISLANDS ». The front face features decorative heading typography, the motto « United we stand; Divided we fall. », rules/articles governing membership, officers, and meetings, and a closing opening prayer. The reverse side features handwritten ink signatures and names of local subscribers/members (including W.G. Leslie, Richard Patton, Jacob McLean, John Thomas, Charles A. Goodwin, Artimas Burke, William McCormick, Samuel McCormick, Seaward McLean, Thomas L. Burke, George McCallum, J. Ballantyne, Peter Turnbull, Howard McPhail, Cecil Patton, Murdoch McLean, Wm. C.
