Badge – Army Class A

A bronze circular badge with enamelled Union Jack in the shape of a Tudor shield, issued to members of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (C.E.F.) who had served overseas during the First World War.

The badge measures approximately 14/16 inches in diameter and features a screw-back fitting for attachment to civilian clothing. Around the outer edge reads “FOR SERVICE AT THE FRONT”, separated by small cross motifs (.+.). The enamel flag is set on a pebbled background, symbolizing the grit and endurance of Canadian soldiers.

The reverse side bears a stamped serial number, used to identify the individual recipient and prevent unauthorized wear. Early versions bore the initials C.P.F. (Canadian Patriotic Fund) above the shield; in later versions, this was replaced with C.E.F.
