Beret

A light blue wool beret with a soft, round, flat crown and a narrow black leather band stitched around the base. The side of the beret has two small metal ventilation eyelets. Affixed to the front (not shown here) is a United Nations insignia pin in white and gold.

This beret is part of the official uniform worn by United Nations peacekeeping forces, often referred to as “Blue Berets.” It symbolizes Canada’s role in international peacekeeping missions under the UN’s mandate, a tradition that began in the 1950s and became an enduring element of Canadian identity abroad.
