Bayonet

A British No. 4 Mk. II* spike bayonet, manufactured by Baird Manufacturing during the Second World War. The bayonet features a blackened steel spike blade with a socket-style mounting, designed to attach to the Lee-Enfield No. 4 rifle.

This version of the bayonet differs from earlier welded designs in that Baird secured the spike to the socket using a steel pin, a method that produced a cleaner and more refined finish. The example here exhibits a noticeably finer finish on the socket than those produced by other wartime contractors.

Bayonets of this pattern were intended for regular issue to British and Commonwealth troops, although evidence suggests some were shipped—or designated for shipment—to India during wartime distribution.
