Small brass winding key featuring a rounded, two-wing butterfly handle (bow) with circular perforations on each wing and a cylindrical hollow shaft. Utilitarian and functional in design, this key was used to wind the internal clockwork mechanism or recording drum of a mechanical barometer or barograph, typical of 19th- and 20th-century scientific instruments.
