Flotation Device

A personal flotation device consisting of a black rubber air bladder with a brown leather harness and buckle straps. The front of the rubber bladder bears the embossed text “LIFEGARD RED RIDING HOOD.” A small metal buckle and tie string are attached for securing the bladder, while adjustable leather straps were designed to fasten around the wearer’s torso.

This style of flotation aid was likely intended for military, maritime, or aviation use, providing emergency buoyancy in water. The materials and construction suggest it is an early to mid-20th-century example, prior to the widespread use of synthetic fabrics in flotation devices.
