Field Telephone

Rectangular brown Bakelite field telephone with hinged lid and leather carrying strap. The exterior has a marbled brown finish, with a latch closure at the front and a mounted German phonetic alphabet reference plate on the lid.

Inside the case is a black Bakelite handset attached by a woven fabric-covered cord. The control panel includes two binding posts, a push-to-talk lever, and metal contact switches labeled La, Lb, and LB/E. The interior also features a small wiring schematic affixed to the inside of the lid.

The telephone was used for direct-line communications between German command posts or field units, powered by an external hand-crank generator or local battery system.
