Button Hook

A metal buttonhook with a decorative amber-colored plastic handle (possibly Bakelite or celluloid) and a curved steel hook at the end. The handle is molded with beveled edges and a cream-colored central insert, giving it an elegant, art-deco appearance.

Buttonhooks were used to fasten buttons on gloves, shoes, or garments, particularly those made of stiff leather or tightly fitted fabrics that made manual buttoning difficult. The hook was inserted through the buttonhole to pull the button through gently.
