Horse Harness

A pair of wooden hames forming part of a traditional horse collar harness, used for attaching draft horses to wagons, plows, or sleds.

Each curved wooden arm follows the contour of a horse’s neck, joined at the top by an iron hinge and strap buckle.

The hames feature forged iron hardware, including two large circular rings (for traces or tugs), hooks near the upper sections for additional rigging, and smaller rectangular loops near the bottom ends.

The wood shows a weathered gray patina, likely from long-term outdoor exposure, and the metal fittings are oxidized with rust.

Traces of leather straps or fittings may have once connected the hames to a padded collar.
