Coal Iron (Box Iron)

Heavy cast iron clothes iron with a wooden handle and hollow interior compartment designed to hold hot coals or a heated slug. The body is wedge-shaped with a flat base and a hinged top lid that can be opened to insert the heat source. The handle is arched, made of varnished hardwood, attached to two iron brackets secured with a wooden knob used as a latch mechanism.
