Mess Tin

Rectangular aluminum mess tin consisting of two nesting containers, held together by a folding steel wire handle. The metal is unpainted and shows light wear and patina from use. This design corresponds to the Canadian and British Army standard issue mess tins, introduced during the Second World War and used for eating and cooking in the field.

The kit allowed soldiers to heat meals directly over an open flame, eat, and then stack and carry the tins easily within a haversack.
