Two related paper documents, framed together under glass. The upper document is a typed receipt dated September 9, 1950, acknowledging receipt by La Vaillante Co-operative, per manager Isaac Deraspe, of $147.09 in loan interest paid to La Caisse Populaire de Grande-Entrée, Î.M. (Îles-de-la-Madeleine), signed by the credit union’s manager.
The lower document is a printed « Received » form illustrated with an engraving of a multi-story building, filled out by hand and dated June 2nd (year partially illegible — reads « 191_ » or « 19_7 »), no. 223. It records receipt from La Vaillante Co-operative of $1,141.76 (« one thousand, one hundred & forty-one dollars 76/100 ») in full account settlement with a company whose name is partly obscured.
Together, the two documents illustrate the financial dealings of a local cooperative (La Vaillante Co-operative) with a regional credit union in the Îles-de-la-Madeleine in the mid-20th century.
