Spoon

Decorative metal souvenir spoon with the word “Evangeline” engraved in block letters within the bowl. The handle features an ornate scroll and leaf motif, with an elaborate rococo-style tip.

The spoon’s design and engraving suggest it was produced as a tourist or commemorative item referencing Evangeline, the heroine of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s 1847 poem “Evangeline: A Tale of Acadie.” This poem became a defining symbol of Acadian cultural identity, and souvenir items bearing her name were especially popular in Maritime Canada throughout the early to mid-20th century.

The metal surface is heavily oxidized, giving it a dark patina.
